Sandai Kitetsu: Roronoa Zoro's Cursed One Piece Sword
Replica
Stainless Steel Straight Sword
Total Length 104+/-
This is the Sandai Kitetsu, the second of Roronoa Zoro's three swords in One Piece. The name translates as "Third Generation Demon Splitter," a reference to the Kitetsu sword family, a line of katanas famous in the One Piece universe for being cursed to bring violent, premature deaths to anyone who wields them.
Zoro acquired the Sandai Kitetsu in Loguetown, the final stop in the East Blue saga before the Straw Hat crew enter the Grand Line. The swordsmith Ipponmatsu tried to warn Zoro off the blade because every previous owner of any Kitetsu sword had met a horrible end, and the Sandai (Third Generation) was no exception. Zoro tested the curse the only way he knew how. He threw the sword into the air with the blade rotating, holding his arm out beneath it. If the curse won, the blade would land and cut him. The sword landed cleanly without touching his arm. Zoro took it, and Ipponmatsu, awed by the show of will against fortune, gave him the Yubashiri (a Meito-grade sword) as a gift on top.
The Sandai Kitetsu has been one of Zoro's three core blades ever since, alongside the Wado Ichimonji (the pure white katana he inherited from his childhood friend Kuina) and originally Yubashiri, which was later destroyed at Enies Lobby and replaced with Shusui at Thriller Bark. The three-sword style, Santoryu, is Zoro's signature fighting form throughout the entire One Piece saga.
The Sandai Kitetsu is visually distinctive among Zoro's three blades. The scabbard is deep red lacquer, the handle wrap is dark with red accent, and the blade itself has a faint reddish tint that distinguishes it from the polished steel of the Wado Ichimonji and the darker blade of the Shusui.
The sandai kitetsu sword is one of the most-asked-after One Piece replicas alongside the full Zoro three-sword set and Mihawk's Yoru. If you're new to collecting One Piece pieces, this is the easiest entry point as a single statement piece that captures Zoro's character without committing to the full Santoryu purchase.
