This armour was made either in Italy or France about 1545-50, possibly for Henry II of France.
It is the finest decorated armour in our collection and is covered in fine gold work and embossed all over with snarling lions’ heads.
The helmet is marked with sword cuts possibly received in the tourney. An armour of this splendour would have been an outward symbol of its owner’s great wealth, rank and taste.
